Baker Mayfield Wins Heisman Trophy

No player has ever won the Heisman Trophy as a walk on and tonight history was made. The Texas Tech walk on captured the 83rd Heisman in a landslide victory. This is the 4th award that he took home this week snagging three awards at the Home Depot College Football Awards Show.  Baker is also the first senior to win a Heisman since Troy Smith back in Ohio State.

Baker Mayfield is an exciting player to watch and he put together a great season all year long with memorable moments. But his work is not done just yet now he wants to cap off his last season as a college Quarterback with a national championship. His eyes are now set on playing Georgia in the College football playoffs in the rose bowl. This is his second time in the playoffs in three years.

Baker Mayfield dealt with a lot of controversy this year. He was arrested on Feb 25 in Fayetteville, Arkansas on several charges, and also he has 2 controversial on field antics over the season. he planted the Oklahoma Sooner Flag midfield after beating Ohio State and on Nov 18th he cursed and grabbed his crotch at Kansas sideline which led to a suspension and another public apology but through it all he still played great.

This season Baker completed 71% of his passes  and threw for 4,340 yards and 41 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions. He also averaged 11.8 yards per attempt and shattered his own record he set last year. He became the 10th player in FBS history to throw for over 10,000 yards but the first to rush for 1,000 yards as well.

Baker has been nothing less than amazing this year and is well deserving of that Heisman trophy. Bryce Love finished 2nd in the voting s with Lamar Jackson(last years winner) finishing 3rd. Now its on to the playoffs. Can Baker Mayfield lead the Sooners to a National Championship? The road starts on New Years day when they take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Make sure you tune in.
