Miocic vs Ngannou set for UFC 220

Now I am your casual MMA fan mainly because I fell off but I still keep up. But I have been waiting for this collision and now it’s finally set. This is one of the most anticipated fights in heavy weight history and should potentially be the biggest rivalry since Dos Santos and Velasquez. The bout is confirmed for Jan 20th in Boston at the TD Garden. Dana White wasted no time setting this match up and it right around the corner. After Ngannou knocked out Alistair Overeem Dana said that he would be next to step up to Miocic for the title.

Miocic has been a dominant champ since winning the belt from Fabricio Werdum in May of 2016. Since then he has defended his title against Alistair Overeem and Junior Dos Santos and won all three fights by stoppage. Now he is on to his 3rd title defense which could give him the UFC heavyweight record for title defenses. Now Ngannou has only been fighting professionally for 4 years but what a 4 years it’s been. All 6 of his UFC wins have been stoppages- 3 TKO’s, 2 KO’s and one submission victory.

I’m excited for this fight and I’m shocked that it’s happening so fast. I expect this to be a good fight and potentially the start of a new heavyweight rivalry. Here is the lineup for the rest of the card that night:

  • Champ Daniel Cormier vs. Volkan  Oezdemir – for light heavyweight title
  • Islam Makhachev vs. Gleison Tibau
  • Dustin Ortiz vs. Alexandre Pantoja
  • Thomas Almeida vs. Rob Font
  • Shane Burgos vs. Calvin Kattar
  • Kyle Bochniak vs. Brandon Davis
